A Move to WordPress

Hi all, hope you’ve had a great Easter long weekend ๐Ÿ™‚ If you’re a follower on Instagram you’ll already know that mine has been pretty relaxing – just what I needed I think.

Anyway, this post is a quick note to let you know I’ve just moved my blog over to WordPress from Blogger… the move went pretty smoothly –ย so far as I can tell so far, but it’s going to take me a little while to go back through my posts and check they’re all good – fingers crossed! ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy (Almost) Easter

Well look at that, not a week in and Iโ€™m already kind-of breaking my new blogging rule โ€“ itโ€™s only Thursday morning and hereโ€™s a new post. Ah, so what. Lifeโ€™s messy and unpredictable โ€“ two things Iโ€™m learning (trying) to accept nowadays. So it is what it is.

So howโ€™s your week been? As usual Iโ€™ll describe mine as pretty busyโ€ฆ

  • Went to a lovely friends wedding on the weekend. Sheโ€™d put a lot of work into it to make it just right for them and it really showed.
  • I experienced my first migraine โ€“ oh yippeeโ€ฆ. It was horrendous! Any advice on dealing with them would be so so appreciated!
  • Braved the cold, wind and rain at the Red Hot Summer Tour.
  • Finished learning the Bollywood choreography in dance class. Itโ€™s pretty challenging!
  • Watched Ted 2 (and used itunes rentals) for the first time. It was funnier than I expected.

Annnnndddd during all this time I also managed to submit another assignment โ€“ yay ๐Ÿ™‚ This course is definitely more work than I thought it would be. Iโ€™m enjoying it, but it can be difficult to fit it all in sometimesโ€ฆ Iโ€™m starting to forget what a good nightโ€™s sleep is like, lol :-/

Anyway, the assignment was to create an advertisement and presentation for a magazine in the style of the art style we researched for our last assignment. Mine was on Art Deco so thatโ€™s what my ad had to look like.

The presentation had to address a whole heap of things like aspects of the styles form and function; examples of the trend then and now; product marketing and production considerations; IP considerations; and connections and associations between history, theory and contemporary practice. All interesting to research and read about, but I get a little annoyed having to answer questions about it allโ€ฆ I know, I know it is an important part of the learning too.

So this is where I would post a picture of my finished adโ€ฆ except I’m writing this on my phone via Safari seeing as Blogger no longer has an app, and it won’t let you you upload photos when you’re using your phone – frustrating! If anyone knows why the Blogger app got removed, I’d luv to know!

UPDATE: For now, here’s a link to it on Instagram:ย https://instagram.com/p/BDUHHQnIkrr/

Anyway, from my own observations I can recognise that it needs more work, i.e. the colours donโ€™t seem quite right, but Iโ€™m not 100% sure how to โ€˜fixโ€™ it. I guess thatโ€™s all part of the learning and experience process. I am pretty happy that I managed to create a wine bottle though! And I like my art deco pattern ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, itโ€™s time for me to go… Have a great Easter!

Weekly Catchup… 160317

Hey, welcome to my first weekly catchup ๐Ÿ™‚ So how’s your week been? I was feeling pretty drained from the 9-5er this week, but looking back over the ‘highlights’ of the week has actually made me feel a little happier. Maybe there is something to this ‘focus on the good’ line I hear everywhere, haha ๐Ÿ™‚
So what’ve I been up to…

* Friends baby shower and I was super happy there wasn’t any of those awkward or embarrassing games! I was also pretty happy that the activities we did do AND the cupcakes were all themed the same as the invitations – the design nerd in me was pretty psyched, haha!

* Bridesmaid dress shopping with my friend who’s getting married later this year. We were a little disappointed when we first hit the shops and realised that they all had their Autumn/Winter stock in now… but we ended up getting the second dresses we tried on! Yay ๐Ÿ™‚

* I finally caught up-to-date on the Being Boss podcasts – so, so luv these lovely people!

* I’m onto my second week of 30 Days of Yoga. I totally stumbled across Adriene by accident on Youtube, and I am absolutely loving it! Roughly half an hour a day, and I can already feel the difference.

* Re-bought all my Easter eggs after the heat in my house ‘baked’ the ones I bought a couple of weeks ago :-/

* Was gifted some Frangipani off-cuts which I’ve temporarily planted until I get the keys to my new house (not long now!)

* Annnd it was my mum’s birthday this week too, so there was the obligatory family dinner catchup which is always crazy fun… this time made a little crazier by me being late because my car battery died, so dinner was late and the kids (and adults) were all getting a little hangry!

Some snaps from Instagram, and some extras ๐Ÿ™‚

Super gorgeous thank-you gift from the baby shower! Super tasty as well ๐Ÿ™‚

With mornings getting darker and cooler, it’s been nice getting some candles burning while I hit the study books… this one was a Christmas gingerbready scented candle from Sophie and Spike – smelt so good!

Frangipani from the gifted off-cuts… The smell of these flowers just makes me think of Summer and holidays…

Art Deco fan pattern I created for the assignment I’m working on – a 20 slide presentation!

So that was my week! Pretty good when you’re looking at the highlights hey ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyway, I’m off to enjoy this weekend – have a great week!

Change of Pace

You might’ve noticed a bit of a lull in posts this last week, don’t worry though, I haven’t gone anywhere, I think I just need to change up how I use this blog a bit.

I post links on my Twitter feed every couple of days, and I put pics up on Instagram a few times a week too, so I’ve been trying to work out how this blog fits in the mix – especially when I’m working on assessments and things that aren’t really interesting to complete in the first place, let alone blog about! haha ๐Ÿ™‚

I definitely want to keep blogging, but a change of pace is needed, so I’m thinking of changing it to more of a weekly catch-up… for now anyway, who knows what’ll happen in the future!

Podcasts

Podcasts are a little obsession of mine and I listen to them all the time – cooking, cleaning, when I go for a walk, and when I’m in the car. And even though most of the ones I listen to aren’t directly design related, I thought I’d share some of my faves here anyway. Like I’ve said before, inspiration can come from anywhere, and seeing as I listen to them so much, its a way to give my fave’s a bit of a shout-out and luv back ๐Ÿ™‚
