Favourites – March 2017

Lola Berry - Food to Make You Glow

The BEST recipe book I’ve bought in ages!

Gooood Morning ๐Ÿ™‚ How are we all today? Aside from the strange feeling that I don’t have an assignment I should be working on, I’m pretty good ๐Ÿ™‚

I really liked putting together the little ‘Favourites’ post at the end of last month so I’m glad I decided to make it a ‘thing’ and do it every month.

It’s been really good taking time throughout the month to think about the things I’m liking or enjoying. Maybe it’s like a little gratitude practice perhaps? Hmm… Seeing as a lot of the things I write down are ‘material’ type things, then maybe it doesn’t count as what other people would call a gratitude practice… but, anyway, going slightly off track there, haha!

So what have I been loving this month… lots of things!

  • Lola Berry‘s new book – “Food to Make You Glow” – OMG – I have cooked probably about 10 or 12 recipes from the book so far and every one has been awesome! So. Good.
  • The sitcom series ‘One Day at a Time‘ on Netflix… I’m not usually a huge sitcom fan, but I loved this and binge watched the whole of Season 1 in about a week!
  • Cashews + Maple Syrup + Cinnamon + Pinch salt + frypan for about 5-10 minutes = amazing-ness! I ate a lot of these over the month, so much so that I had to stop making them for awhile, haha ๐Ÿ™‚
  • Magda Szubanski‘s memoirย “Reckoning‘. I remember watching Magda when I was a kid on Fast Forward and Full Frontal, and of course in Kath & Kim, but I’d never really given her as person too much thought. This month though Magda was the Guest Speaker at the International Women’s Day event I went to, and hearing her talk made me download her book. And wow, from herย family history, and her own personal struggles, it was such a moving book.
  • Theย Being Boss Podcast. I’ve been listening to this for awhile, I think almost since they first started, but it’s been getting to feel more and more relevant as I’ve been nearing the end of my course and starting to think about what I’m going to do next ๐Ÿ™‚
  • Halsey – “Castle”ย – awesome song!

Have a great day!

Wow…

Surf Gypsy (2017)

Part of one of my last assignments – I really enjoyed this one ๐Ÿ™‚

Ahhh, sooo… I’ve just submitted the last assignment for my course!!

Wow!!

Three years of study – done! I can hardly believe it! It’s been such a long process and there’s beenย so manyย life changes along the way… like moving house four times, my 9-5 job constantly changing,ย going through all the sickness in the build up to the autoimmune disease diagnosis – just to name a few…. but I made it! OMG!

So now what?

Apart from deleting the 4:45am ‘wake-up to study’ alarm, I’m going to give myself a few weeks to do nothing except read and catch-up on my Netflix list lol ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s going to be a really strange feeling to not have that little voice in the back of my head telling me I should be studying!

I may post on here in those few weeks… but I also might not and you might not hear from me till later next month – I’ll see how I go.

Have a great day every one!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Soooo so good!

I like stuff, and things, and I like sharing stuff and things that I like, sooo I decided to start a regular post and share a bit about the stuff and things I’ve been liking lately, lol

It will be pretty random – TV shows, songs, food, whatever, but hopefully I can introduce or start an interest in something for other people… who knows ๐Ÿ™‚

For this first ‘Favourites’ post I have….

  • Wild Orange Essential Oil – Yum! One sniff of this scent and my brain just says ‘Summer Holiday’. I love it! I’ve made a little roller with coconut oil, lavender oil and the wild orange oil that I’ve been using as a perfume lately, and I’ve also been putting it in the diffuser with some peppermint oil in the morning – about 3 drops of each. It is so good!
  • Side Hustle School Podcasts – A project started this year by Chris Guillebeau, one of my favourite writers/travellers/entrepreneurs/people, Chris encourages everyone to start a side hustle by delving in to the stories of successful side hustles. You have to listen to it!
  • The Civil Wars album “Barton Hollow” – I first heard of The Civil Wars through a social media post by Brittany Viklund, and now I think I’ve listened to this album ah about 60 times!
  • Pana Mint Chocolate – Before my autoimmune diagnosis, I was a Cadbury’s-family-block-all-to-myself kind of girl, buuuut that had to change and thankfully I discovered Pana Chocolate! It’s raw, organic, handmade, vegan, non dairy, no soy, gluten free, no refined sugars… alllll the good things, AND it tastes awesome! Also, I don’t need to eat a whole block to feel satisfied – one or two squares and I’m good ๐Ÿ™‚
  • ‘The Little Paris Bookshop’ by Nina George – Wow. I loved this book! It was one I downloaded on my phone on a whim, and totally not what I would usually read. But it was great… I may even have shed a tear or two!

Let me know if you try/like/love any of the things I’ve mentioned – would be great to hear what other people are loving!

Unrelated to the links below… but out in bloom everywhere here at the moment so they’re on my mind – Frangipanis – just make me think of the beach… ๐Ÿ™‚

Even though I had a huge break from posting on here the last couple of months, I was still online and did manage to get through a few links thatI hadย saved in my ‘Reading List’. I have a really bad habit of just seemingly ‘collecting’ links and never getting around to actually reading the articles! Does anyone else do that? I’ve got about a hundred things on there at the moment so I’ve put aside some time each week to work my way through them… for now though, here are a few that I got to recently – enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

Wonder Woman – A Chrissy pressie I got off a relative who knows my penchant for trying to ‘do all the things’… Something I forgot isn’t realistic these last couple of months! ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy 2017! Yes I know it’s February, so the Happy New Year thing has kind of passed, buuuut, I’ve been gone for a few months and this is my first post for the new year.

How are we all? I’m… good? Yea, today is good. An awful lot has happened since my last post, there’s been some great ‘ups’ and also some pretty low ‘downs’ but right now, at this moment in time, all is pretty well.

Things are still incredibly busy with working the 9-5, trying to finish my Graphic Design course (I am sooo close!!) and, you know, life in general.

My health – the ulcerative colitis (autoimmune disease) I’ve mentioned before – is stillย something I’m learning to manage every day, but I have to say there are a lot more good days now than there used to be.

I’ve got my diet fairly well sorted for managing it with the no dairy or gluten, but I do slip (a lot) on remembering how much fructose sugars I’ve had and that can have a not-so-great effect on me… I’m also still learning which seemingly random foods outside of those general groups will take me down – the big ones right now are quinoa and green apples… who would have thought??

Stress is alsoย a bigย trigger for setting off my symptoms – and the one where the ‘Wonder Woman’ fiction comes in to play… lets just say that moving house, while trying to renovate the one you’re moving out ofย and the one you’re moving into, over the Christmas/New Year Period,ย while also coordinating a huge audit at work,ย and attempting to complete assignments, as well as doing everything you can to maintain a fairly prescribed food plan, and, you know all the other ‘life’ stuff… kind of hits all the stress buttons – at once… Can’t say those few weeks were the most fun (or healthiest) of my life… for me oooorrrrย the people around me – ekk! Buuuut, things are a bit calmer now, and I’m not yelling quite so much, so everyone is a bit happier, haha ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, now that things have relaxed a bit, I’ll be getting back stuck into this blog. I’ve worked out a bit of a plan of what I want to post about this year so we should be back on track!

Hope you’ve all had a great start to 2017 – talk soon ๐Ÿ™‚
