Radio Silence

Well, as you can see, I didn’t stick to my plan of getting back into this blog. It’s not been because I haven’t been experiencing or working on anything design or art-y related – if you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know I definitely have been… it’s just been that these things don’t seem to need a full-on blog post written up about them. So, for that reason I’ve decided to stop updating this particular blog. If you’re at all interested in seeing what I get up to in the future – design and art wise, the best place to find me is on my Instagram account – @alwayswantedinsta – You’ll get a bit of general life thrown in there for good measure too, but it’s where I’ll be posting any work or inspiration that crosses my path.

In other news though, I’ve decided to start a blog to track my thoughts and experiences with UC (Ulcerative Colitis). It’s been an interesting year or so since my diagnosis and seeing as everyone’s experience with UC/IBD is different – reading other people’s experiences has helped me so much I wanted to add my thoughts to the mix. Ahhh, sooo… I’ve just submitted the last assignment for my course!!


Three years of study – done! I can hardly believe it! It’s been such a long process and there’s been so many life changes along the way… like moving house four times, my 9-5 job constantly changing, going through all the sickness in the build up to the autoimmune disease diagnosis – just to name a few…. but I made it! OMG!

So now what?

Apart from deleting the 4:45am ‘wake-up to study’ alarm, I’m going to give myself a few weeks to do nothing except read and catch-up on my Netflix list lol 🙂 It’s going to be a really strange feeling to not have that little voice in the back of my head telling me I should be studying!

I may post on here in those few weeks… but I also might not and you might not hear from me till later next month – I’ll see how I go.

Heeelllooooo!! And a little health update…


Wonder Woman – A Chrissy pressie I got off a relative who knows my penchant for trying to ‘do all the things’… Something I forgot isn’t realistic these last couple of months! 🙂

Happy 2017! Yes I know it’s February, so the Happy New Year thing has kind of passed, buuuut, I’ve been gone for a few months and this is my first post for the new year.

How are we all? I’m… good? Yea, today is good. An awful lot has happened since my last post, there’s been some great ‘ups’ and also some pretty low ‘downs’ but right now, at this moment in time, all is pretty well.

Things are still incredibly busy with working the 9-5, trying to finish my Graphic Design course (I am sooo close!!) and, you know, life in general.

My health – the ulcerative colitis (autoimmune disease) I’ve mentioned before – is still something I’m learning to manage every day, but I have to say there are a lot more good days now than there used to be.

I’ve got my diet fairly well sorted for managing it with the no dairy or gluten, but I do slip (a lot) on remembering how much fructose sugars I’ve had and that can have a not-so-great effect on me… I’m also still learning which seemingly random foods outside of those general groups will take me down – the big ones right now are quinoa and green apples… who would have thought??

Stress is also a big trigger for setting off my symptoms – and the one where the ‘Wonder Woman’ fiction comes in to play… lets just say that moving house, while trying to renovate the one you’re moving out of and the one you’re moving into, over the Christmas/New Year Period, while also coordinating a huge audit at work, and attempting to complete assignments, as well as doing everything you can to maintain a fairly prescribed food plan, and, you know all the other ‘life’ stuff… kind of hits all the stress buttons – at once… Can’t say those few weeks were the most fun (or healthiest) of my life… for me oooorrrr the people around me – ekk! Buuuut, things are a bit calmer now, and I’m not yelling quite so much, so everyone is a bit happier, haha 🙂

Anyway, now that things have relaxed a bit, I’ll be getting back stuck into this blog. I’ve worked out a bit of a plan of what I want to post about this year so we should be back on track!

An Honest Post on Where I’m at…


Not where I’m at… but where I would mind being 🙂

I almost quit last week. My course, this blog, trying so hard with my new ‘healthy’ way of living, and a few other things too. I’d had enough, I was tired, I didn’t want any more expectations on me. I just wanted to be left alone to maybe sleep for a week or so. I was thiiiiiis close to just giving up.

But then I saw a life coach… Now before you go rolling your eyes, yes yes, I’ve been pretty sceptical about them in the past, but someone close to me was seeing this particular coach and was finding it beneficial, and I was at a point where something needed to change I’d try just about anything. So I went along for my first catch-up and, what can I say, I haven’t quit any of the things I was on the verge of giving up. I have a new game plan and I’m working on a new way of looking at things.

The life coach asked questions and listened to me and helped me narrow down a few key actions I could take right now to make some changes that would help me out. They weren’t huge or complicated and I’ve started working through them and seeing changes already. The biggest one was putting my early morning study sessions back in my calendar. I was at a real blockage in my course, not making a lot of progress and panicking that I have to finish it this year, but the life coach turned me on to a method that Elizabeth Gilbert talks about where you don’t wait for the inspiration to do the work, you do the work and the inspiration will come. So, now, six days a week, I committed to sitting down and studying for 1 hr (I chose in the morning because that’s when my head is the most clear and can focus). Sometimes this’ll be a chore and I’ll struggle through the hour, but other times, it’ll fly by and I’ll want to stay at my desk for even longer. Either way, I’m at least now making progress. This alone has made me feel a bit better.

Sounds simple hey, and it is definitely something I could have done on my own, the same as the other actions on my new list. But I think what I got out of the life coach session the most was the validation from a complete stranger that what I’ve got going on in my life right now is a lot and no, not everyone could just ‘handle’ it all, and I shouldn’t be frustrated or disappointed that I can’t do everything. She helped me see this and narrow things down to what absolute priorities are at the moment. This is something that was difficult to see on my own, and also difficult to talk through with friends and family. The non-biased thoughts of a stranger can be quite helpful.

So, I’m not quitting this blog because I really like writing and sharing what I’m up to, but I wouldn’t be expecting multiple updates each week for awhile, and there may be weeks when I don’t post at all. I won’t have forgotten about the blog, but I’ll just have other priorities that week… and that is okay.

A Day to Relax

Ahhhh… Today was the first time… uh, I can’t even remember, where I stayed in my PJs till lunchtime.

After a stressful few weeks including throwing one of my closest friends a kitchen tea yesterday, I was pretty exhausted, so I decided to give myself the ‘day off’ today.

I slept in, had a looooong breakie with a cup of tea and Collective mag, did a bit of cooking, and then worked on my design insp. scrapbooks while catching up on my YouTube Watch Later list… It was just what I needed 🙂
